Reboot W2K server from Command line

By California Dead Head ·
I need to be able to reboot my W2000 servers from a command line manually and also set up scripts to run Sundays at 1 a.m. to reboot them automatically.

What is the command line syntax that will reboot a w2000 server?

What script will reboot them and how do I schedule it Sundays at 1 a.m.??

I think this is what you want:
Use the Remote Shutdown Tool to Shut Down and Restart a Computer in Windows 2000 317371

"This article describes how to use the Remote Shutdown tool (Shutdown.exe) to shut down and restart a local or remote Windows 2000-based or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer.

Shutdown.exe is available in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit. It is a command-line tool that you can use to shut down or restart a local or remote computerthat is running Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0. If you want to schedule a computer to shut down and restart at a specific time, use Shutdown.exe in combination with the at command or Task Scheduler. "

Windows XP Professional comes with a perfectly good shutdown commandline utility - c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe.

It's basically an updated copy of the one found in the Win2k Server Resource kit. If you can can find an XP Pro machine, pinch the .exe from it and use this.

I have used this to bounce Citrix servers at a pre-scheduled time. I created a batch file with the command "shutdown -t 0 -r -f" in it.

Then I used the AT command (primative, but I prefer AT to Scheduler) to automate it. The command to do this is "at 0100 /every sun c:\shutdown.bat"

This gives you both the shutdown command (from WinXP or the Win2k Server Reskit), and the automation. Good luck.
