    Recommendation for Linux sound card

    Locked

    by mckaytech ·

Can anyone give me a recommendation on a good sound card to run under Linux (especially if you’ve done Internet telephony of some kind).

I have both PCI and ISA slots available on an ATX PII and the current version of Linux is Redhat v6.2 (Zoot) with the 2.2.14 kernel.

    Any advice will be appreciated!

I don’t know but a plain Soundblaster PCI 128 works fine onto my SuSE 6.3 (2.2.13 kernel) with ABIT BP6 dual celeron.

Take care that sndconfig doesn’t work properly in my distro so you have to configure manually (remove the comment lines in default modules.conf).

Never tried MIDI nor internet telephony, sorry.

Thanks! I figured I would be safe with a Soundblaster of some type, but it was good to hear that a PCI 128 works well.

I have a SoundBlaster (16 – I think). Just an older PCI SoundBlaster. Both Lunix (RedHat 6.1) and FreeBSD (3.x) found and used it just fine.
