Recovery Files to CDROM RW

By gario ·
Since the price of CDROM RW's have dropped drastically, I have an idea that creating Recovery CDROM RW's would be a great advantage to my company. Since we have a standard PC configuration with Windows98, I want to create CDROM's to recover Windows98 workstation at corporate and remote locations. I know that we can create a recovery diskette with FDISK and such, but since the storage on CDROM's much greater than diskette, can anyone advise on what other files or directories should be added? And,can this be done?

A better way of doing this is using nortons ghost. Doesn't matter what the hdd size is as you create an image of the drive to a file, this is usually around 500/600 mg.
You can then burn this image to a cdrom. If the hdd goes down, you put in another hdd, boot ghost from a floppy disk and choose image to disk, select the image on the cd and in about 10 mins you have a working pc back the same as when the image file was created.
Seen as prices of cd's are so cheap aswell you can create an image for each pc and burn that image to a seperate cd.
It's an engineers dream!!

As an addition to Ans 1 - you can use Ghost images not only for recovery but also for installing new boxes - imagine full PC with all needed apps and even desktop icons in 10 mins - I've installed more than 50 machines in 1 day (you can do it simultaneously)
