Recycle Bin Icon

By mbrocco ·
After deleting the files in the recycle bin the icon does not change to the "empty basket icon". (This worked in the past, but recently the icon has stayed in the "I've got files to delete here" position). When I check the settings in the control panel display effects it appears that all is correctly selected. Help!

Recycle bin blues

It depends on what operating system you are using but under the first release of 98 this appears quite regularly (own experience). Just goto microsoft and download a patch, or even the second edition

Recycle Bin Blues

Sometimes, the relevant link to the icon is corrupted. Fast way to restore: Microsoft's TweakUI will do it for you. Free, but unsupported program. Just click on Repair, Rebuild Icons. BTW: get the latest version.

Fix without downloading a thing

by rspeidel In reply to Recycle Bin Icon

Although having the latest patches to Windows is absolutely important, it does not always fix the problem. I also think TweakUI is a fantastic program and recommend it to anyone with windows, there is a simpler way. Many times Windows gets "confused" and does not realise the recycle bin is empty. Usually if you throw another file in there (a blank text doc will work) and empty the recycle bin again it cleans it up. The other two reply's are 100% right also though.
