Reformatting Access 2000 DB

By pwdalt ·
I am a volunteer in an organization that has everything in one table, (created a long time ago.) I would like to create relational tables to improve efficiency but fear losing stored data. Is there a way to have the data migrate to its new table?Example: There is information about membership's automobiles, I would like to eliminate automobile information from the only table to a "Automobile" table.

Quickly, I assume that there is an ID for each member. Copy the table and then in the Auto table delete all except the ID and the Auto info.
On the Big table delete the Auto data now establish the relationship.
Another way is to create an Append Query to create the new table and a Delete Query to clean up the old one.

Another thought is to use the Table Analyzer (Tools->Analyze->Table). It will walk you through the steps to split tables apart.
