Reformatting DriveSpaced hard drive

Have some very old PCs I am cloning for limited use. Some have been compressed with DriveSpace. Can’t use Norton Ghost directly, so tried to reformat the drive first and message said it was the wrong version. OS is Win95. I tried Windows 95 and Windows 98 boot disks. DriveSpace was done by my predecessor several years ago. Any ideas?
