Refresh the Memory in Win98

By nabeedi ·
Is there any way to refresh the memory in Win98. You know that Win98 lacks of memory management. If you open sort of applications, you see that the system is running out of resources. Is there any solution for this problem?

I hope someone else will jump in with a better answer but the only one I know is a re-boot. That is one respect in which Windows2000 is a vast improvement.

Widows 98 and Windows 2000 both need the systems to be restarted in order to clear the swap file and reagin that lost memory.

Agreat many users are finding 3rd party utilities to manage memory resources.
MEM TURBO is one for example.Closing some applications does help.

Win98 is a resource hog. In other words, it will use everything you give it. The only way to conserve system resources is not to use them. That means not letting unused programs run in the background. Use your system configuration utility/startup todictate only those programs you want to run at startup and just be careful about what programs you leave running. If you want to refresh the memory, reboot.

i would both manage your own swap file to 3 times your actuall memory and use msconfig to get rid of resource hogs like nortomn utilities or sytemworks from your tsr's
