By gbrownlee ·
Hello:

My OS is xp home and the disc that I have is an OEM version with sp1.

What is the best way to delete and reinstall IE?

Thank you
Greg

First, why do you want to re-install IE?

Have you tried opening add / remove programs and selecting the repair option for IE?

As a side note, XP SP2 is due out next week. 1 expected component is IE 6 SP2.

Another side note:
With the exception of a few web sites that only work with IE, I have switched to Mozilla Firefox as my web browser.
For my use, it has been more stable than IE.

Hello: I want to replace IE because I suspect it may be corrpted. No one will be more happy to see sp2 than me. I am really tired of all the malware that is out there and I hope sp2 will help.

Internet Explorer is integrated in the OS,you will only get the option to repair.

To reinstalL and run setup for fresh copy you want to get the utility IERadicator (free download)run this to remove ie,when complete you can now go to Microsoft web site and run setup to include SP1

I checked in add/remove programs and cannot find the option to repair IE.

Why I suspect there is a problem with it that I am having a problem while browsing the web or downloading. My dial up connection is good for about 5 minutes and then deteriorates. I have queried my internal win modem and it checks out ok. I tried a new modem, same problem. I tried another computer using my internet connection, no problem.

PS, I realize Mozilla is a more trouble free browser, but... with my current internet connection I'm not able to download anything of any appreciable size. Also, I want to learn how to repair sytems.

You are caught in a Catch 22. Need to access Internet to fix but can't access Internet. You only have two options.

1. Use another PC to download and copy needed files.

2. Take it to your local, friendly PC repair shop.

I found a MSKB article on this problem. Ran sfc /scannow but I still have the problem. It seems like something is fighting with all the anti malware software that I use for control of my browser. Does that make any sense?

Go to add\remove programs.

1st go to add\remove windows components. uncheck the IE then hit next and follow through the steps.

2nd restart

3rd go back add\remove programs. This put a check in IE and hit next this will install it. You may need to have the cd if you dont have one ask one of your buddies to lent it to you.
