By sross ·
a user keeps getting a #5.5.0 smtp;550 relay access denied error whenever he tries to email a certain person. We use exchange so it cant be the that the "authenticate out-going mail" option. Any suggestions?

I assume that 'a certain person' is outside your organization. If you check the headers of the non-delivery notification, you may notice that the message was sent by either the addressee's mail server or your ISP's mail server to which your Exchange server forwards all outgoing messages (so called SMART_HOST option in Sendmail).

Could it be that the From: address in your user's message is wrong? Have you tried to send a test message to 'a certain person' and it has not bounced?

Another possibility is that your domain has been black listed by an RBL. Do a Google search for a rbl look up tool and you should be able to see if your domain checks out.
