I always thought of the Q&A section of this site as an EXCELLENT IT resource. The opinons and answers given are invaluable to IT staff and end users everywhere.
Recently, I think people are abusing the ‘service’ that is provided to them by the Q&A forum.
ie: A recent question was from a supposed IT administrator who was wondering why the Telezapper doesn’t work on digital lines (even though telezapper folks said it wouldn’t).
Having a psat in the telecom industry, I wrote a somewhat lengthy explanation of how digital lines carry signals compared to analog lines and WHY telezaper doesn’t work, apart from being illegal for use in Canada.
After writing the answer, I noticed he had only assigned 35 points to the question, Oh well, I always say points aren’t worth much anyhow, he had a legitinate question and this is the place to look for help.
Nobody else answered the question and it was eventually closed and REJECTED! I guess it wasn’t the response he wanted (how to make telezapper work on digital lines)which can’t be done, but it was the facts.
Feeling quite stupid for answering the question in the first place, I wondered if this is common or if anyone else has had similar experiences.
I would also like to hear any suggestions as to YOUR screenig methods if any before answering a Q&A.
