Remoting in to windows 7

I have a windows 7 pro machine at my house, and my mother has a windows 7 home machine at hers. Seeing as we are about 600 miles from each other every time she has a problem with her computer i dont want to take the time and go up there. So I tried RDC last night and was unable to connect to her. Then I tried Ultra VNC and it is telling me she does not have a password and I am not sure what to do. She needs some help and i dont want her to have to pay for it one, and two i dont want to travel up there every other week. Is there any real solution that will work in this case. I have a home network with FIOS, and she is using an air card bought and services running through Sprint. Any help is much appreciated and would like to help her, but not completely sure how to. Maybe a free app like Ultra VNC that works pretty good.

  CrossLoop, both parties need to install their software, then she will give you her number/letters. You enter them in, and it will connect you to her PC… Pretty easy to use. Might want to look into it.
