Remove Windows 8 Password Using HDD as External?

by barbquebutt . Updated 11 years, 3 months ago

Hello.

My brother recently passed away. He left behind a laptop full of financial information as well as sentimental things (photos, writings, etc.) that none of us can access because it is password locked. I would like to be able to unlock it for his fiancee so she can have access to these things, but because it is a Windows 8 computer, this is a bit over my head.

Is there a way for me to pull the HD and remove/change the Windows password manually by using it as an external drive on my laptop? I know I can just copy the files to my computer, but I’d like her to be able to use his laptop without having to reformat or anything. She’s having a hard time, and I don’t want to take this piece of him away from her if I don’t have to.

Thanks!
