Removing”Lip” from Amounts underlined

While in Excel, I format the Total Col. with borders in the Top and bottom of the cell; the problem is that the borders extend way beyond the digits of the amounts, which looks very unprofessional.

How can I get rid of the so called “lip” such that the border just covers the part where there are digits, and not the empty space.
