Repair windows view - jpeg, & gif files

By wino460 ·
(This got trunkated?)I had my PC st-up to view as web page which allowed mr to preview my jpeg & gif file on the left side. I realy love this as iy save a lot of time opening them in MS photo editor. I had purchased a CHEAP polaroid Camera w/out flash this thing to the worst photos ever, so I replaced it with a AGFA CF18 w/auto flash & timer it has 2 quality grades 1=16 pics 2=32 pics it came bundled with some kinda internet developing and printing link, and corel software which I did not like so I uninstalled all but the twain driver which works with my MS Photo Editor and my Visioneer scanner. at on epoint I had all of this photo software installed at 1 time. the problem I am having is I can no longer get the web page preview on the leftand when it goes to open all 32 pics in photo editor every pic gives an error however it does open in photo editor I tried to reassociate Jpeg in the file types area thats when I noticed the error but opening pics in editor. I saw an article about reloading win98se with a command line switch /d to lay a fresh version of windows over the current one without damage (? Right)but when I look at my cab files on my system they all appeared to be 95 upgrade instead of win98SE which is what I am 90% sure I installed. I did however let that MS Update thing work on my PC a FEW times before I shut it down as it seemed to slow down after updates. This PC is an ASUS A7V w/EXT. promise raid ata 100 pci card running 2 WD 30gigs that are particianed into3 drives c=10,000 b=10,000 e=9,000 their is also a=mitzumo 1.44 b=IOmega 250 zip f=Plextor 12x10x32 w/cdcreatore ver4.05 g=lite-on dvd w/power DVD3.0 its running a non-overclocked AMD 1200 T-Bird with 512 pc133 mem that has tokd windows its only 490mg dut to a lock up problem i was having this help but did not fix it the addition of a 3rd fan has helped and i noticed a patern that causes lock up when its on-line due to dirty

Download PreviewFix.zip from here:

http://www.geocities.com/plansdowne_ca/

Unzip it, double-click on the unzipped file and restart. Your previews will be fixed.

1. Try to fix file associations by pressing Shift + Right Mouse Button on any GIF or JPEG file. Selct "Open With" option. Then select IE. Then in Windows Explorer from views select option "View As Web Page". Then apply View All folders as current.
2. Win98SE fresh install. You will need to have Win98 boot disk, Win98SE either on HD or CD. Make sure you backed up all your files, especially drivers. Move your Win98SE install folder to other partition (if you don't have CD), because you'll need to format your primary bootable partition. Insert Win98 boot disk in floppy drive and restart your PC. It should boot into DOS. Type format c: /q and follow the prompt. After that done type \setup.exe (where \ is the path of your Win98SE CD). It's usually good idea to have only Video, HDD, CD-ROMS attached to the mainboard during OS installation. If you're installing OS on RAID - keep RAID controller in. After install, install your PCI perefirals one at a time. Good Luck!

Help guys!! somehow while installing video camera software Poloroid first then AGFA /corel it took over my gig and jpeg files I read an article in my e0mail from TR that talked about reibstalling win98de over the existing one using the command line switch (here's the Article) Command line switches
Microsoft documents most of the SETUP command line switches in their Knowledge Base article Q186111, "Description of the Windows 95, Windows 98 and Millennium Edition Setup Switches." Here you'll find listings of such switches as the Windows 98 Setup /m command to bypass the playing of the Setup sound files and the /d switch to bypass your existing Windows configuration. I don't know why you would need the /m switch (unless the sound drivesyou mad after setting up hundreds of PCs), but the /d switch is handy for placing a fresh Windows setup over an existing installation. WILL this help I have treid reg cleaner and reg restorer that you can down load from c/net no help actually slowedthe PC down and has given me a few new bugs. I do know the whole format and reload thing don;t wanna if I don;t have to also if using a win95 boot disk can have ill effects on a fresh win98se load? HELP? I will add more points if thats what it will require to get a solution!!!!!

Lost preview of *.JPG in Windows Explorer
If you lost the ability to preview your *.JPG files in Windows Explorer (when using viewed as Web Page):

Click Start > Run, and type the following command in the Open box:

regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll - If you have Internet Explorer 4 installed

regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll - If you have Internet Explorer 5 installed

(and press Enter).
