Replacing the Outlook Icon on Desktop

By boegel ·
I have a user that deleted the shortcut for MS Outlook from their desktop and the Start--->Programs. I can reinstall a shortcut from the Outlook folder but when selected, it asks the user to supply information instead of just opening Outlook.

I remember reading an article a while back from techrepublic that explained how to reinstall the shortcut back to normal but I can't seem to find it.

Replacing the Outlook Icon on Desktop

by sgt_shultz In reply to Replacing the Outlook Ico ...

i got the following from microsoft knowledgebase article #238567:
To restore a deleted outlook icon:
if outlook 97, you can use the chginbox.exe utilitiy on the office 97 cd in valuepack/patch folder (you can also download it from microsoft)
if it is outlook 98 or 2000, you hafta fix the registry per below then REFRESH the desktop (F5)to see the restored icon.
remember to backup your registry first...

Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\

On the Edit menu, click Add Key, and then add the following registry key:

Key Name: {00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

hope this helps, good luck
