Is it installed on dedicated media hardware or just a pc?
simple thing to do reformat and then install.
Incidentally how are you trying to install xp?

      how & why

Why – It’s on my wife’s new HP laptop which keeps dropping its wireless connection when she’s at work. An IT Pro suggested replacing Win Media with Win XP Pro because there is so much extra junk on it that it is conflicting with Windows wireless network.

How – Using the Win XP Pro install disk.

That will allow you to upgrade to copy of XP that you have to what you want but you’ll have to activate it so I hope that you have a Genuine Copy.

But if you already are having trouble with MCE it’s a better idea to backup all the data and then use something like Boot & Nuke to delete the contents of the entire HDD so you appear to the Windows Installer to be doing a clean install on a new HDD.

Doing things this way will get rid of any junk that you don’t need but will require a complete install of all necessary software.
