Resource Management

By Badgerland ·
What tools are project managers using to track and allocate resources for projects and tasks? I'm looking for something to show who is assigned where, for how long, shows vacations and can be used to show availability of resources.

MSProject is great but not easy to use, you need to understand the insight of its and see if its style suits you.

If not, try iPlan from http://www.iplanenterprise.com/default.htm
Let me know if you are interested after learning the tool, I may have a word with the MD.

Microsoft Project. There's a pretty good tutorial avalilable for free at: http://www.stylusinc.net/ms_project_tutorial/project_management.shtml

It takes some time to learn, but is very useful. If you're a student lower pricing is available.

We had the same problem and decided to go with a web-based project management and collaboration tool, the services of which we are paying for on a monthly basis.

It's easy to use, is as comprehensive as MS Project if not more so and all the data is held on a secure centralised server. The only problem is that the company that provides this service currently is only offering the service via referral, so they can only be contacted by phone. The number is +44 (0) 208 788 5959 as they are based in London and the company name is IdeaBox.

I would definitely recommend this system, it has made a huge difference to the way we work...hope this helps

We decided there wasn't a good easy to use solution out there. So we have built our own. It is due for release shortly. If you are interested in the details drop me a line.
