Retainer Negotiation Question

by watoosi . Updated 17 years ago

I recently migrated a 20-seat office from PC>Mac. In the original proposal, I suggested a retainer of 30 hours/month at a discounted rate of $125/hour (my regular rate is $150/hour). I also service the president of the company and his home/family at $150/hour

I’m now 3 months into the maintenance period and they’re finally getting around to signing the retainer, but they now want me to take any unused hours out of the 30 and apply them toward the President’s personal work at $125/hour, then charge $150/hour once they are “used up.”

I’m kinda shocked by their reaction, but I need the retainer. Has anyone else every seen this and is it a BAD move to take the reduction? Any suggestions on how to handle?
