root password

By Errd ·
This is a silly human mistake, after I installed RH Linux 7.0 (I'm new to Linux),
I left it for a while and now I forgot the root password, is there anyway I can change it or do a recovery somehow, or a new install is required ?.

Thanks.

Hi,
When you get the boot prompt ie boot:
Enter
linux single
you will be left with a root shell. There you can change the password by passwd command.

Sanjay was right but he was not exactly clear what he ment was as soon as lilo comes up type "linux single" without the quotes of course. And when it boots up use the passwd command to change it.

Hi,

This is an advise only, remember to have a boot disk, it's cool for stand alone or single user tasks. such as reseting root password, or having a second root user.

Good luck
