routing of emails into 2 internet domain

By steffeno ·
I have an NT Server 4 running a DNS and an Exchange 5.5. Currently have a domain call abc.com with exchange mailbox user@abc.com. I would like to add a new domain xyz.com. And move users mailboxes to the new domain xyz.com. So users will be using user@xyz.com. In the future the old internet domain will be removed. What is the best way in configuring this. Thank you in advance.

Simply add an additional Internet (SMTP) address to each user with the @xyz.com address. Set that address as the Reply address, so all new email will say it was from user@xyz.com. Then when ready simply remove the old address.
As for DNS you willhave to have an MX record for xyz.com create and point it to your Exchange server running the IMS.
If you have lots of accounts to do, you can use the export and import feature of Exchange to get the users information into a spreadsheet, edit it then import it back into Exchange with the changes.

Do as blkdragon sais. Don't forget to add the new domain xyz.com as Inbound on the Internet Mail Connector ROUTING tab.
