Run as boot when other name signed on

    by efriedrich ·

I’m trying to install Oracle 8i on Solaris 8 on Intel. I can’t do that when signed on as boot so I have to sign on as some other user. At one point in the installation process, it tells me to open another window and run a script as boot. How do I dothat without logging off and then logging on again as boot (which kills my installation).

Open s second window and issue the su root command. Give the password and you should be able to run the script it’s wanting you to run. The script is making changes to /etc files and the oracle installer id you’re using normally doesn’t have write access to that directory. That’s why you need a bigger hammer.
We open two screens, one as oracle and one as root before we start our installs to save time. Hope this helps.
