run task scheduler automatic at night

By bkt100 ·
I have set up the task scheduler weekly at 2:00 am Sunday, recently I receive an error message in the morning that defragment is not completed, and asks me to run scandisk to fix the error before running defragment.. eventhough I ran that scandisk to make sure there is no error last Sat night
Please help me to fix the problem?

Double check to make sure no other programs are running in the background. Anything else running may affect the task scheduler, and cause an error. Close everything down, before running the task scheduler, with ctrl-alt-del, or alt-tab.

You also need to possibly run a Thorough Scandisk. Many times I have seen the quick scan report no errors but then a full scan found a problem. Also, I have used the non-windows scandisk to correct problems that windows couldn't handle. As a last resort you can always boot into safe mode command prompt and run scandisk from there also. Just make sure himem.sys is loaded

Make sure the task (defrag) properties are set to run only when idle and to start only when the computer has been idle for a specified period of time. Make sure no background tasks are operating. Some antivirus programs wil interfere with Defrag (and ScanDisk) if Defrag is set to "Check drives for errors". The antivirus prog. writes to its logfile that it is checking things, then scandisk sees something was written to the drive and restarts, initiating a loop.
