OS WIN98SE. IE5.5. When on the internet started to get following message: "Run time error 216 at 00002EF1" and work is blocked and PC has to be restarted. What does message mean? and what can be done to solve problem if any.

Your computer might be infected with the SubSeven Trojan virus. The best thing to do is to run an AntiVirus program to check the computer. You can find more information about the virus at "http://www.hackfix.org/subseven/".

Thanks your reply. Checked for SubSeven. No found. Have also installed the Cleaner which didn't find any trojans either. Any other suggestions. And what does error message really mean?

Although I don't know how to solve your problem, I do have a program that tells what Windows errors mean. For error number 216 it says:

"The image file %1 is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine."

I don't know if this will help, but I hope it does.

Yesterday I established that a new program I installed: Merriam Webster?s Concise Dictionary from iFinger must have contained a bug or it has interfered with other programmes on my PC. After I uninstalled the programme the error message has not appeared since. Thanks to everybody for your replies.
