Rundll32.exe and Tapi.dll errors

By mengland ·
When dialing out to the net I get a this error "Rundll32.exe has performed an illegal operation....". I check the next bit and it is caused by the Tapi.dll.
I have replaced these files and still happens.
Uninstalled the modem and dialup adapter, communications and still no luck.
Can some one please help...As I don't want to reinstall my machine.
Thanks

I'm assuming you are running W98. I would reinstall the Windows 98 by booting into a DOS window. Run the setup from the CD and it will update your system without losing your current configs and software. I feel this would be the quickest way to fix the rundll problems which are farely common.

Rundll32.exe and Tapi.dll errors

Try this:

In C:\Windows, rename telephon.ini to, say, telephon.bad. Then run tapiini.exe, which should be in C:\Windows\System. That will make a new version of telephon.ini, which I suspect might be screwed up.

Reboot and try dialing out. Let us know whether that changes anything. If it doesn't resolve the problem, you can delete the new telephon.ini and rename the old one back to its original name, so you are at least back where you started.
