I recently upgraded my IBM Intellistation M-Pro 6889-56U to the maximum amount of memory, 1024MB across 4-256MB DIMMS. O/S is NT4 with service pack 6a applied. Ever since adding this memory, the rundll32.exe file has been weird. When I first open Internet Explorer (5.5 with SP2 applied), rundll32.exe starts eating memory like there’s no tomorrow – slams the swap file for about all it’s worth and keeps “chewing.” This goes on for several minutes, finally it will release and go back to some 2600k (according to the task manager). It will continue this way fine for some time until something else – often a pop-up window will launch a new instance of IE, will start the swap-file thrashing all over again.
Any ideas or patches/patched versions that will fix this? Sounds like a memory leak bigtime.
