Is there any danger in running defrag on a drive that has errors reported?

Depends on the errors, normally defrag will halt due to errors and request you run scandisk before running defrag again. If the hard disk is failing then defrag would be a bad idea, your immediate attention should be backing up the data before the drive goes south on you.

If you know the drive has bad sectors, why not backup data first; then run scandisk from DOS with surface scan. Try fixing the errors on HDD and then try to defrag.
Cheers.
