Samba / Cross Sunets

By TobeJ ·
Hi There,

Have Samba working in our networks. Only one side of our subnet can see the server though. I have been reading that there are 2 different way to setup the samba server to be used across subnets.

1. Setup a Samba server on both subnets,
and then promote one to be the master.

I don't want that one!

2. Setup a new Eth card with the address schema of the other side.

Does the second option sound right, will it work? Any other ideas out there?
Will Lmhosts do it for me?

Thanks in advance.

Toby

Samba / Cross Sunets

Hi Toby, As per my knowledge your PDC ( NT domain if using) should have both the segments and Your will have to configure an alias IP for linux which running samba server. This much setting is enough I beleive.

Let me know your experience and feel free to ask.
Bye
Best of Luck and Have Nice Day.

Hi Nitesh,

I don't have a Nt Domain box running on the network, I am only using the Linux / Samba server itself.

Samba / Cross Sunets

Hi Toby
This is my first time answering a question so here goes.
I believe that all you need to do is edit the SMB.CONF file
127. is localhost

the line to edit is
hosts allow = 192.168.76. 127.

just add the second subnet hosts allow = 192.168.76. 127. 192.168.85.

Good luck
let me know how it goes.

Samba / Cross Sunets

Hi!! Nitesh Again. I worked out on this again and I found that there is an entry in smb.conf file called interface where you have to specify the ethernet address and port number. For Example.

interface = 192.168.1.1/24,172.16.0.1/24

This is required to mount samba on both the cards
Try this and let me know.

Thanks & Regards
