save document message

While using Excel 2000 on a Novell 5.x network with Windows 2000 clients and MS Office 2000 I receive the following message: Document saved successfully. Cannot reopen the saved document due to low memory. Please close the document. The save works fine and I can continue to work on the file. I have tried this on several xls files with the same results. I do not see an memory problems. Office has all the latest patches. Could there be a problem with a MS Office patch?

Well, you could have a memory leak, or too small of a page file.

How much RAM do you have?

And, are you using a fixed size page file?
If not, how much free space is on the C: drive?

For Windows 2000, I would want a bare minimum of 128MB of RAM.
256MB or more would be better.

Next, if using a fixed size page file, it should be the larger of 2 times RAM, or 1GB - RAM.

If using a normal Windows controlled page file, you want a minimum of 1GB free hard drive space.

This problem is happening on thee workstations. All have 256megs ram. I upped the page size to 1gig. That didn't help. Each computer has more than 1gig free hard drive space. Any other ideas?

I had the same problem on a Novell network, but it was with Lotus. The problem stemmed from the Novell client. Is the client prior to 4.83 service pack 2? I would use at least client 4.9. If you are using NDPS, you have to chose custom install to select it, or you won't have any printers after you install it.
