Saving Favorites And Address Book

By Casemaker ·
I have a pc that I need to restore. I do not have access to Internet Explorer or Outlook Express from the desktop. I have the hard drive installed as a slave on another pc. I want to copy the files for the IE Favorites and for the Outlook Express address book. Would you tell me which files I need to copy and then restore on the restored HDD.
Thank You

Saving Favorites And Address Book

IE Favorites are stored in a folder called "Favorites", probably under Windows. The OE address book is a file with the extension .wab; do a find on files named *.wab and you'll find it.

If you could access IE and OE, both of these have an Export function on the File menu that would make the process much easier.

It depends a little bit on what version of Windows and IE that you are using.

For W98SE with IE6;
Favorites are at windows\favorites
Address book is at windows\application data\microsft\address book The file(s) have the extension .wab

Also, under application data\users\(a string of charaters)\outlook express will be your outlook express mail folders. In case you want to save them. The file extensions are all .dbx

For the IE favorites, just copy them to the favorites folder after you install windows.

For the OE files, I would create a folder and store the files there.
Then from outlook express, use the file/import command, and point the wizzard to the folder where you stored the files.

For W2K/XP, the folders with the user files are under the root, instead of under the windows folder.
