Saving in Word

Situation: Word 97/Outlook 97; User is opening Word attachments in Outlook, then saving. The default user folder location is a mapped drive. However, when the user goes to Save As, the location the app is attempting to save in is the C:\Windows\Temp folder. I believe this is due to fact that the document is new and has never been saved, and is an email attachment, therefore, Word is using the Temp folder as the file-save location and not the standard default. Am I on the right track or is my thinking all awash? Appreciate any guidance.
