I have faced this problem twice. the first time was I am using windows 98 OS on a compaq desktop computer, my acer scanner 310P cannot detect by the computer but once I my friends gateway computer the scanner work perfectly. Now I am using canon FP320 scanner to use on two gateway computer. The PII cannot detect the scanner but the parallel port work properly on a printer but the PIII gateway computer using the same OS (windows 98) can scan using the canon scanner perfectly. So I was wondering what is actually the problem. Was it the hardware or the software problem. Pls reply.. Thank you.

Changing to WinXP solved the problem of scanner not detected

I recently upgraded my processor from an Athlon XP to a Sempron, in the same motherboard. When I came to use my scanner, some week or two later, it wouldn’t work. So, as I didn’t suspect a link, I bought a new scanner – that didn’t work. Although the system said the drivers were installed and the device working properly – no go! I installed, first the new scanner then my old scanner on my laptop – they both worked! My operating system is Win98SE but I’ve had a copy of WinXP lying around for a while and a new drive so, on a hunch, I installed the drive and XP and then my scanner – it worked.
