Scheduled tasks

By Blackcurrant ·
Hi

My WinXP (SP1) computer belongs to a domain. I have several scheduled tasks set to run under my (admin) account. I would like one of these tasks to run no matter who is logged on.

I have seen in the 'Help and Support' that scheduled tasks will run when a different user is logged on but that they will be invisible. Is there a way that I can set a scheduled task to run and be visible no matter who is logged on? I need other users to be able to see the task and take appropriate action.

Thanks

The last I checked the Task Scheduler in Windows XP was having serious issues and pretty much not working at all. I have a couple of clients who have tried scheduling different things in XP and it just doesn't work. If you do a search on Google it might have some workarounds until MS gets it fixed. FYI, all my clients downloaded every update there was hoping that one of them would have a fix in it. Still nothing.

Hi Brian, thanks for answering. I do not have any problems running scheduled tasks. My XP machine has SP1 and all critical updates installed. I can run tasks if I have set the 'Run as..' option and provided a password. I did have problems when my machine first arrived, but reinstalling the OS from the installation disk sorted this out.

There is a freeware program called NTCron (Sysinternals?) that runs as a service. I don't know if the scheduled tasks will be visible since I've never used it but you should check it out.

These guys got it right, the XP Task schdueler is pretty weak. It works decently for some tasks, and crappy with others. Backup's work great with nobody logged in, but AV scans dont work at all.
I know for sure that if a task is set under one ueser, and another user is logged in, the task wont run, even if admin set up the task. Good luck....
