The college I work for needs a new network designed and implemented due to the poor state the current one is in. The computer network is only small and has around 50 computers, the majority of them are in the 1 location with some being external and connectiong via VPN.
The network currently runs W2K server and all clients are Windows XP. This software will continue to be used.
What recommendations do people have that I should keep in mind when designing this new network. Due to students using the network, internal security is already of a high importance.
If other people work in a simliar environment, how are your domains setup? eg. just 1 domain or 1 domain for students and 1 domain for admin
My thoughts so far is to make use of OU’s and Group Policy in Active Directory. Some sort of content filtering will be added to the network and also a bandwith limiter for all students.
The current servers will go and I haven’t worked out exactly how many servers there will be andwhat their roles will be.
