SCO PCMCIA Configuration

By vavazquez652 ·
I have SCO UNIX 5.05 installed in a TOSHIBA 4000CDS notebook.

How can I configure a PCMCIA 3com network card in SCO Unix ?

If the Network Interface Card Support (nics) package is installed, the "niccfg" command should get you to the screen where you choose the card. There isn't a man page for niccfg - you just type it at a root prompt and the rest is menu driven. If thedriver for the card wasn't standard issue, check the 3COM site to see if they have one for your flavor of SCO Unix or the Caldera site (they bought SCO's Unix products) at http://www.caldera.com/support/download.html. Then issue "/etc/inet/menu" forthe ip configuration.

First of all, most important thing to run SCO Unix OpenServer on Laptop, you should have SCO compatible PCMCIA card.(Unfortunately, you don't have that much of choice..)

I am sure that 3Com 3C589 series works well with SCO Unix because I use it now on my laptop. But this model is old and 10 based not 100 based ethernet. If you have other card, you'd better check the compatibility from www.sco.com

If you have proper pcmcia card, try this

# netconfig

You will have menu-driven screen and just choose what you want to do.
You can add network card with 3com pcmcia ethernet driver from there.

For your reference, as you use OpenServer 5.0.5 you may need to type ip address maually.
(5.0.6 supports dhcp but not on 5.0.5.)
