Screen problem on Dell laptop

I discovered lines of bars that I can barely see at a glance on my screen, but it makes images look really pixelated and of poor quality. This has happened to me once before in the past for a day or two and then it just disappeared on its own. It’s not just with Windows XP because I can see the pixelation/bars before Windows starts up. Where is this problem coming from and can it be fixed without getting a new screen?

If you can see the problem before Windows starts, it’s either the screen OR the video card portion of the motherboard or possibly even a cable. A service center can diagnose the problem and recommend/give estimates for appropriate repairs. We can only guess what’s wrong without having the appropriate testing equipment and hands-on access to it.
