Screen Saver

By jdam4921 ·
My client likes the screen saver on another system that is on the same workgroup. How can I move this screen saver from one system to another?
How do I find the actual file for the screen savor and move it or share it so I can move it?

The file will have an extension of .scr and probably be in the Windows (or Winnt) folder, or the system32 folder under that. But to be safe do a file search of the C: drive for all files named *.scr .

You may be able to tell the one he wants just by the name, or you can just double-click on them one by one till you find the one you want. Then just copy it to a disk or out onto the network where he can copy it to his system.

If it is a 'standard' screen saver, syscokids advice will work.

Many of the more involved screen savers have additional files that are required to run them.

After you find the .scr file, search the folder on date and time. Take a close look atany files with the same date and time created as the .scr file.
A right click, and review of the properties should tell you if the files are related.

A few screen savers only install a 'basic' file in the Windows or Windows\System folder.
The file references a program installed in another folder.

Once you find the name of the screen saver, you might want to search for it on the web.

Some screen savers are copyrighted programs that 'technically' require a separate license for each PC they are installed on.

I will have to give you the point for this one because you did answer it... however look for my next question. I am looking for a background that he has on his system... I was able to find the .scr just like you told me now I need to find the folder that hold the backgroud themes and such.
