By Tho Nguyen ·
Dear All!
I'd like to write a script what would automatically ftp to McAfee ftp site to get the updated Anti-virus dat files so that I can schedule this script to run automatically. Can anyone give me any idea where to start and what language should I used.

I believe that McAfee comes with a virus update option. I think it would be a matter of adding this command to your task scheduler.

Both Virusscan (for NT Workstation) and Netschield (for NT Server) have Autoupdate and Autoupgrade otpions which can be scheduled. I don't no if it's possible on Win 95/98 :-(, but on Netschield you must start NetSchield Antivirus Console, choose and open Automatic DAT Update and there is a button with "Schedule..." written on it - I think this is what you are looking for.

OK, Tho asked for a script, and I think I know why. At my place we download these so we can run the update off our network on our 2000 computers and not eat up our internet pipe. There are several options:

1. Get a copy of freeware GoZilla, an automated download scheduler. Leave it running and schedule it to download the file. You will probably need to figure out McAfee's naming convention, and then use wildcards (i.e. mvs*.exe). You can make this work even if you dial up, as GoZilla isMS Dial-up aware.
2. You could write a script in a batch file that will FTP the file, then using McAfee's scheduler call the batch at your interval (weekly, daily, etc).

Hope this helps.
