Script to set up Outlook

By shafferm ·
I have Windows 2000 Server and Exchange 2000 Server with Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 Pro, and Windows XP Pro workstations. All workstations have Outlook 2000 installed. When a user logs on for the first time, is there a way to set up Outlook to connect to the users Exchange mailbox using the login script or a batch file?

You can downlaod the Office 2000 Resource Kit from MS web site and create a custom Installation package, use variables (%username%) when you customize the package so the user doesn't have to answer any questions when first running Outlook. It takes about 20 minutes to setup, run it on all your machines, once you do that, any user that logs on for the first time will not have to answer any questions when running Outlook for the first time.
you can dowload it at (remove spaces):

If the question is "can you start outlook automatically on first logon", then I would alter the domain logon batchfile to check for a local fle on the computer, if it is missing start outlook & then create this "flag" file.

eg

If not exist c:\startoutlook.txt then start outlook.exe

If not exist c:\startoutlook.txt then echo XXX > c:\startoutlook.txt

If the question is "can I automatically create Outlook Profiles on logon" then I would look at a

You can combine the first two options.
