second DHCP client can’t connect

by jrhombus . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

windows nt 4.0 sp6a server (BDC w/DHCP)
cisco switches (i have no control over; been told they are configured correctly)
windows nt clients (hp vectra vl400 integrated 3com NIC)

after installing NT onto machine & connecting to network it is unplugged from ethernet port (100/fullduplex). a second machine is then plugged into ethernet port (already configured) so that i can work on it. the second machine is able to get an IP but unable to logon to the domain. when i plug in any other machinei get the same result=domain server unavailable.

it seems this problem is occurring more frequently. here is what i have done so far:

used machines on different outlet/ethernet port.

PC’s network interface is OK & working – have used several NICs & (new) machines w/integrated NIC as well.

release/renew IP.

changed settings 10/100, half/full, autoselect, hardware detect

expanded to second subnet recently because i was running out of IP’s-connections are successfully been made to new subnet.

thanks
