Securing printer cable (USB) to system

by ebeck . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

Hello all,
I have a warehouse location where the temps aer constantly removing the usb cable to a label printer on different machines to move it and hook up to another device. They do this instead of calling for help when they run into any problem, which of course creates new problems and more visits to the site for my techs. We’re getting new Dell small form factors with the lockable sleeve on the back, but I suspect they can still pull the usb out one way or another. I’ve searched for “secure or lockdown or lockable” cables and other posts, with little results for the specific issue. Can any other folks out there advise what they have done when they encountered this – short of staging armed guards or video surveillance? The management there is of course convinced that they are not doing this and are accusing the techs of leaving things that way when they visit. I’m looking for something to ensure these can’t be removed without a key – like a metal locked sleeve rather than the plastic Dell one has or something more secure.

Any insight on a product or other suggestion would be appreciated.
