Security Centre can't detect anti virus

By Daz'n'Ash ·
I am running Windows XP Professional and have recently removed an anti virus software that didn't work properly and replaced it with another. Now Security Centre does not detect there is an anti virus installed. I have overidden the alert by selecting the option to monitor the anti virus myself, however, I would like to know why this has happened and how to rectify it?

What AntiVirus program did you install? Not all antivirus programs are detectable or make themselves know to the MS security center in XP... and unfortunately the only way I have see to get around the annoying messages is exactly what you did - disable/overide it.

eTrust EZ Anti Virus, I got to that by clicking on the Recommend button in security centre in XP. It was in the list of recommended anti virus software.

If eTrust EZ Anti Virus is working properly its possible that some of the previous AV product remains in the system and is causing this error.

If the AV product is working correctly leave what you have done alone and forget about it but if the product isn't working properly you'll either have to configure it or reinstall the thing to get it to work properly.

That is one of Windows Bug Bears th inability to completely remove installed software.

It is a windows glitch. I installed the same anti virus on another winxp machine and it never gave me that problem.
