Security Certificate errors

by liz-t . Updated 17 years, 7 months ago

Like some previous contributers my problem is specific to the above.
Firstly I’m using Windows XP 2000 + Broadband & recently had to have a new Mother Board installed. Also have AVG free version & Firefox also free,as well as the Windows Firewall.
When I try to access some web pages (bonafide eg National Theatre/Royal Opera House)SCE appears + a message box.I can access a web page by clicking on the red shield which isn’t recommended but I continue as I know the website/pages are trustworthy but I don’t enter any personal info.
The message box offers a possible reason for the above problem.
Here goes:Windows can’t connect to the internet using,HTTP,HTTPS or FTP,this is probably caused by firewall setting on this computer.Check FW settings for the HTTP Port (80),HTTPS Port (443) & FTP Port(21) or call your ISP.Rang latter but they couldn’t help!!
Can anyone help,simple language please.
I mean how/where do I locate Firewall Settings, & will I need to add/remove ticks?
By the way, when people say check/uncheck something do they mean place a tick or remove it?
As I’m but a novice I’ll be forever grateful if someone out there can prevent me going bonkers.
I have read all the other suggestions regarding this particular problem but I’m afraid I require a very simplified explanation plus I don’t want to risk mucking up the computer.
Sorry this is rather lengthy but I wanted to give as much detail as possible.
Yours with grateful thanks
Liz T
