Security copy of roaming profiles

By Josep_M_C ·
On a Windows 2000 domain there are more than 500 users with roaming profiles.
I'm the Administrator, and I want to make a security copy of the data on every profile (My documents, ...)
I have a CD burner for this purpose.
What program/utilitie doyou advise for this?

Security copy of roaming profiles

Do the following if the purpose is to get a backup of the roaming profiles onto a CD. Use the Built-in backup utility W2K provides to make a backup of just the profiles. Instead of backing the profiles to tape, select backup to file. This will make a single file with a .bak extention. Lets assume you named it profiles.bak. Once the backup is complete, copy the profiles.bak to the machine that has the CD burner assuming the server is not the one that has it. Then use the software that camewith the CD burner to write the profiles.bak file to the CD.
Hope this helps

All W2K operating systems including W2K Pro come with ntbackup.exe. It is a scaled down version of Backup Exec. You can find it under Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup

The folders into roaming profile doesn't copy with this backup utility. Folder like "My documents", ... are stored on a shared folder on Server, but buckup can't copy files on It. If I (Administrator and Domain Administrator) try to look contents onthis folders I can't, I have not Security level for this purpose. What can I do?

By default the Administrator and Backup Operator have permission to backup the profiles directory. However, neither have the default right to go snooping into the profile. Your original question was how to backup the profile directory (my documents) and get them onto a CD. I feel that I have provided the answer to your original question yet you have rejected it AND changed the question. I may be new here and willing to share my knowledge, but not to someone who holds up a moving target. Also I answered your Roaming profiles on W2K Cluster Service question and you provide no feedback to the answer, reject it and close the question.. Whats up with that?

I'm sorry about It. I made a mistake and close the question when I still haven't tried the answer. When I look your name in the 2 questions I move the points from one to other.
