Security of IE and Outlook Express

by hzisko . Updated 16 years, 8 months ago

It’s been a few years since I’ve been in the “desktop” arena, and I’m trying to get caught up on a few things.

Back in the days of Internet Explorer V5 or V6, it was generally recommended (for security reasons) to use some other browser and email programs than IE and OE. This was mainly due to the fact that most security exploits were designed to exploit holes in IE and OE, therefore using other programs protected you from these problems.

I realize that the world has changed in the past few years, but would you still recommend not using IE and OE from a security standpoint?

Note: I am specifically asking about home users who do have a choice on which software programs to use, and not corporate users who have to use what is dictated by their IT department.

Thanks in advance,

Harry Z.
