Seeking Advice on Splitting MIDI Channels from USB for Launchpad X Using ES

    by james598grose ·

I’m working on a project to make my Launchpad X wireless and need some advice on splitting MIDI channels from a single USB into separate bidirectional streams. Currently, my Launchpad X sends MIDI data across a single USB connection, which handles both DAW in/out and MIDI in/out.

Here’s what I’m trying to achieve:

USB Splitter Setup: I want to use an ESP32 Nano to manage one USB input (from the Launchpad X) and split it into two USB outputs—one for DAW in/out and the other for MIDI in/out. The goal is to route these signals separately to support full functionality wirelessly.

Power and Expansion: Will a powered USB hub work for this, or do I need a USB expansion board with additional ports? My understanding is that a powered hub should suffice, but I’m open to recommendations on ensuring bidirectional communication.

Future Integration: Eventually, I’d like to use the ESP32’s built-in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) capabilities to reduce the setup to a single USB for the adapter, with the ESP32 handling the rest. Any insights on combining USB and BLE for MIDI routing would be appreciated.

I’ve seen various projects and discussions about MIDI routing and ESP32 integration but am having trouble piecing together the specifics for this setup. Any advice or resources you could share would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Best regards,
