Seeking program to autologout & login

    Locked

    by david_johnson ·

I’m seeking a program to autologout & login a workstation in a Novell 4.1 envvironment between certain times. Due to our automated backup sometimes a file gets corrupted having it open while this interface workstation is logged in. We had a program that was shareware years back that would reboot the PC at a given time. The company that created this utility no longer exist for support.

A couple of ideas to consider. First is software called NetOFF. We use it on NT but I thought I read it works on Novell. It autologs off a machine after set time of inactivity. Administrator decides the length of time to logoff. Second idea is the schedule service in NT and/or Scheduled Tasks in Win9x. We used a utility from PCMAG for restart of Win9x machines and put that in scheduled tasks.

How about using an open file agent? I use ArcServe for both Windows NT and Novell. I have Open File Agents installed. The backup software is able to take an image of the open file, then backs up the file. It leaves the file unharmed, and also gets a clean backup of it.

There is software called Automate by Unisys which is basically a macro recorder which I believe can do the required tasks.

There is a shareware program on TUCOWS.COM called Watchdog which is supposed to allow you to shutdown computers at a specified time. I haven’t tried it. Also, you can use the Watchdog feature of NetWare to DISCONNECT users at a specific time. This is not the same as loggin them out, however. This just clears their connection. Watchdog options are set at the server, check NetWare documentation for more info.
