Self checkout behavior analytics

Hi everyone! Newbie with a pretty random question haha. I wanted to ask if self-checkout systems are a thing here. I work for a regional food retail company and we’re planning to use self-checkout system in our new grocery store, but we’re not sure if it’ll work well. The store currently uses a smart system to prevent theft and we’re wondering if we can use it to also analyze the behavior of the customers that are using the self-checkout system so that we can know whether the self-checkout system is a must-have or not. The system is called Hikvision, which I believe is a big one in this industry? We did contact an integrator and they offered another VMS as a solution, however it’s quite pricey. Are there any other options that can also do behavior analytics? Thank you all in advance!

That’s a trend to save money indeed by replacing cashiers with machines. Generally customers like it, because it reduces waiting times.

It’s up to you to if you want to specifically follow the behavior of your customers either by just looking around, by basic video surveillance or by AI powered automatic analysis.
I’d start cheap and only go expensive if you feel you need to do more.
