Sending and receiving with a 169 IP

By lonna_74 ·
I am currently having some issues with a client computer. The connection appears to be sending and receiving but it has a 169 IP. I've tried to reinstall the nic and the tcp/ip but nothing I have tried will make it release the 169. There are no fire walls running and nothing that stands out for programs.....Please help me!

You did not mention which OS you are working with but using this methode will work with all though it may not be the easiest.

Temporarily give your computer a static IP address. (reboot 95, 9 Then re apply the DHCP settings. (Reboot for 95,9 If you are connected to the network you should pickup a good address now.

The 169 address is a default that is assigned when a DHCP server cannot be located.

I forgot to mention that I am running Windows XP on these machines. Will assigning a static IP address work for XP as well as 95 and 98? How do I assign a static IP address?
