Server-Profile is not updated

By qsr ·
We are running some Win2000-Workstations on a WinNT 4.0-Server. If you log in to the domain (WinNT 4.0) with a Win2000-Workstation and you only have simple user-rights (domain), the profile can't load from the server. Leaving the session on the workstation also won't save the profile on the server. This problem doesn't occur if you have adminstrator-rights (domain).

For the moment, we log in local to the workstation and not directly to the domain.

This will bring different problems (don'tknow if we would have too, if we would log in to a NT-Domain?), as f. e. creating a Netscape-user while working with local Admin-rights - loging as local simple-user doesn't open the Netscape-profile but again with local Mainuser-rights or Admin-rights it will work. But this is a local-problem. Nevertheless, are there any solutions for those two problems?

Server-Profile is not updated

Honestly, I would try the WINS/LMHOSTS/ExpetedDialupDelay scenario.
Eventhough 2K does not primarily use WINS, it IS supported. So, do you have WINS running? If so, are all 2KPro clients and the NT4 server configured to use it?

If not, add entries into the LMHOSTS file on the 2KPro workstations for the domain and NT4 server NetBIOS name. (actually, I have had to use the LMHOSTS file even with WINS running!)

(please remove spaces)

Last, you could try adding the ExpectedDialupDelay Registry entry into the 2kPro workstations. I have had to do that to a 2KPro workstation to connect to a NT4 server. It does work.

(remove any spaces also)

Hope this helps.

We do not have problems connecting to the server with win2000-workstations. The problem occures only if you have normal user- and no admin-rights. Then the profile will be loaded - but with most diverse error-phenomenons.
We have also (local) problems with programs installed while you are logged in as administrator - programs won't work with (local) simple-user-rights.
I guess we would have the same problems if we could logg into the domain with simple user-rights(?).
Thank you, but we stillneed answers to this.

Sounds like the win2000 machines think that the user does not have the right to update the profile. Logon as administrator, right-click on 'my computer' and go to properties. go to the user profiles tab and select the profile you want the user to use. hit the 'copy to' button and see who it says is permitted to use.

Properties of 'my computer' - user profile tab shows all users [admin as like simple-user(s)].
Copying the profile(s) is permitted to each profile - that can't be the problem!
Thanks anyway - but we still need help.
