Setting up 2 email servers

By Patrick Horn ·
I have been tasked with setting up a front end and a back end Exchange 2003 server. Does anyone have any good instructions on how to go about this. I have set-up a single server but not two. Thanks....

Hi,

1. install first server normaly, create exchange organisation.
2. start second install, join exchange organisation, join the administrative group, complete installation (don't forget to update both exchange server with sp1; it's not neccessary for front-/backend, but your exchange would be a little safer)
3. open exchange system manager, right click the appropiate server object, go to properties, on the default tab there's a check box "This is a front end server". Please mark!
4. Populate your Mailboxes on the other exchange server.

you're done.

Thomas ;-)

Thanks for the reply. I need to add info though. I'm upgrading from 1 exchange 5.5 machine to the two boxes. Do you know of any issues I may run into?
